I know I speak for all of Queen’s University when I say how deeply we are moved by the suffering and loss that has been a daily reality in India for the last several weeks. Media coverage has shown in explicit detail the devastating effect the current wave of the pandemic has had in that country. Our university is home to many students, staff and faculty from India, many of whom still have close ties and family living there, so I understand that the toll this situation is taking on them is considerable. The university is committed to assisting those affected in any way it can.

The current conflict in the Middle East and in particular, the violence in the Gaza Strip, is cause for concern around the world. At Queen’s, there are many people affected and many more that are watching anxiously to see if this conflict can be resolved quickly without any further loss of life. This is a deeply troubling situation fraught with complexities. The university is committed to ensuring that the situation does not polarize our community. Recent social media posts by the Queen’s Journal have been the subject of controversy.

Flags on campus will be lowered for 215 hours, one hour for each child taken.
