Our mandate

As Co-Presidents of the Gender Studies Department Student Council, our mandate is to strengthen student support, engagement, and advocacy within the department and the broader university community. We have taken on this role to foster a more inclusive, informed, and empowering academic environment, one rooted in feminist principles of equity, care, and collective leadership. We aim to support students both academically and socially through events, advocacy, and opportunities for creative expression. Through this strategic vision we seek to make the Gender Studies Department an experience that amplifies student voices and cultivates a culture of collective learning. We hope to achieve this by leading through collaboration, empathy, and organization, ensuring our department peers feel empowered and supported. Our council is excited to create spaces where students can connect, learn, and celebrate one another. We recognize that Gender Studies is not only an academic discipline but also a community of care, creativity, and resistance. Through our events, initiatives, and advocacy, we aim to strengthen those bonds and ensure that every student feels seen, supported, and empowered. We invite all members of our community to bring their voices, passions, and ideas to the table as we continue building a culture of solidarity, joy, and transformation on campus.
