Based upon research led by Amy Latimer-Cheung, Canada Research Chair in Quality Physical Activity and Disability at Queen’s University and director of the Canadian Disability Participation Project (CDPP) 2.0, the Municipal Guide provides guidance for municipalities and community organizations to promote quality physical activity for persons experiencing disability in Canada. The Powerchair Playbook is a how-to guide for sport and recreation program providers to start and enhance powerchair sport participation opportunities.

In creating these two sets of guides, the team conducted research on how persons with disabilities participate in activities, their real-life experiences, and the policies that help everyone access recreation and physical activity equally. Using this information, the team created practical recommendations on program design, facility access, community involvement, and leadership. These guides help municipalities and sport and recreation organizations make inclusive changes based on solid research.

Dr. Latimer-Cheung is available for interviews to discuss key findings and how the Municipal Guide and the Powerchair Sport Playbook can be used to improve access and participation in community programming.
