On January 14, 2026, the CEC-REN Youth Outreach team visited Sydenham Public School. Since opening in 1853 under its former name, Kingston County Grammar School, Sydenham has been one of the longest continuously operating elementary schools in Ontario.

Prama Roy, Ember Carrera, and Rhiannon Punch had the honour of presenting to Ms. Cronk’s Grade 5/6 class and Ms. Gazeley’s Grade 3/4 class. The students were highly engaged, attentive, and thoughtful during the presentations and interactive DIY activities. We loved seeing their bright minds connect sources of contamination to pathways of exposure and ecological harm. They also listened respectfully to the speech Anishinaabe environmental advocate Autumn Peltier delivered at the 2018 United Nations General Assembly when she was around their age.

We are truly grateful to teachers like Ms. Cronk and Ms. Gazeley who volunteer their time to support environmental education and help build a more sustainable future for all.
