Dean Barbara Crow and her academic colleagues in the Faculty of Arts and Science gathered at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre recently to honour the top students in FAS. The 45th annual event is designed to recognize students on the Dean’s Honour List with Distinction.  

In the Faculty of Arts and Science, exceptional students are honoured with placement on the Dean’s Honour List - a designation for those students who have achieved an academic year GPA of 3.5 and above for all courses taken in the Fall, Winter and Summer terms.  

The Faculty of Arts and Science has just over 14,000 undergraduate students, 4,554 of whom were placed on the Dean’s Honour List this year.

The student invited to the event at the Agnes attained an academic year GPS of a minimum of 4.13 in Arts programs and 4.26 in Science programs.

“Clearly, in a university whose ad����ֱ�� standards are among the highest in the country, your accomplishment is a truly significant one,” says Dean Barbara Crow, Faculty of Arts and Science. “On behalf of my colleagues in the Faculty of Arts and Science, Vice-Dean, Associate Deans, Department Heads and Chairs of Undergraduate Studies, some of whom are here tonight, I congratulate you on your outstanding performance.

Approximately 75 students attended the celebration including fifth year student Emma Colvin and third year student Lucy Garabedian.

“It’s really exciting to be recognized for our hard work,” says Colvin who is familiar with the FAS leadership team due to her work on the FAS Student Council.

“For me, I’ve never attended before, so I was curious about the event,” Garabedian adds.

When asked about maintaining a high level of academic excellence, they both agree organization and dedication are key, as is enjoying the academic work. “If you like the subject, you will do well,” Garabedian says.

“It’s also important to have a calendar so you can focus your efforts and you don’t miss deadlines,” Colvin adds.
